We are currently recruiting for the position of Nurse – Specialised, O.T. Nurse, based in Jowhar.
General Purpose of the Job:
The O.T nurse is to support the OT activities in line with MSF protocol working closely with the rest of the O.T team, main duty is to do scrub nursing and assist surgeon during surgery. Should be flexible to do other O.T work including sterilization when needed.
Specific Responsibilities and Tasks:
- 1. General Knowledge of MSF and Safety at work:
- Co-operation with the colleagues of own and other departments.
- Is aware of activities of other departments and respect specific rules and procedures.
- Comply with the health and safety rules / instructions of the supervisor for wearing protective gears (if/when applicable) related to the job for the sites.
- Ensure all staff supervised by him/her complies with the health and safety rules / instructions of the supervisor for wearing protective gears (if/where) related to the job for the sites.
- Respect medical ethics at all times.
2. Specific tasks:
- Maintain the proper medical organization in the operating area: OT, waste disposal area and sterilization area.
- Support and maintain the organization of the work in the OT (programming of operations, aseptic/septic operations).
- Maintenance OT and sterilization instrument (surgical instruments, suction, lights, table, laryngoscope, oxygen concentrator, oxymeter, autoclaves, burner etc).
- Ensure security of O.T equipments in collaboration with the rest of the team.
- Assess and follow up the patient for pre/ post surgical procedures according to MSF protocol.
- Assist the MSF-E Surgeon during the surgical interventions when required.
- Ensure the correct surgical kits composition.
- Collaborate with Anesthesia/ sterilization nurse for cleaning of instruments, the packing and the sterilization.
- Ensure the daily supply of surgical items in OT from maternity pharmacy.
- Cover and helping the sterilization nurse work if the person is on leave or busy.
- Apply general hygiene, universal precaution and waste management protocols properly.
- Participate and assist in all training sesions and meetings.
- Improve the general work organization in the Maternity Unit and its pharmacy.
- Support other members of the team during emergency obstetric situations.
- Participate in neonatal resuscitation when not engaged with scrub activity.
- Properly record & collect surgical and IPD data (OT list and statistics).
Additional Tasks:
- Be flexible and be able to give assistance with different activities not included in this primary job description.

Education:
- Secondary level of formal Education
- Nurse Diploma is a must and
- Minimum 1 year training or experience in O.T nursing or scrub nursing.
Experience:
- Experience in MSF in similar position will be an added a set.
Language:
- Knowledge of English is must plus local language
Personal qualities:
- Objective, flexible, enthusiastic
- Organized and accurate in performing duties
- Ability to work with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural people
- Ability to listen and diplomacy.
